Cricket fever hit Arun Jaitley Stadium as Virat Kohli returned to the Ranji Trophy after 12 long years. Fans arrived in huge numbers, far exceeding the Delhi & District Cricket Association’s (DDCA) expectations.

The DDCA had planned for 10,000 spectators, opening only the 6,000-seater Gautam Gambhir Stand. But the Kohli effect forced them to open the Bishan Singh Bedi Stand, accommodating another 11,000 people.

Despite not getting a chance to bat on Day 1, Kohli made sure to keep fans entertained.

Kohli’s ‘Have You Eaten?’ Gesture Goes Viral

While fielding in the slips, Kohli got involved in a fun interaction with the crowd. He turned both sections of the stands into a cheering contest. He urged them to outdo each other in volume.

Once satisfied, he burst into laughter, even sharing a moment with his teammates. Then came the moment that sent social media into a frenzy—Kohli’s ‘Have You Eaten?’ gesture.

As he looked towards one section of the stands, he rubbed his stomach and gestured as if asking fans if they had eaten.

Massive Turnout Creates Chaos at Entry Gates

The excitement to see Kohli live caused a rush at the entry gates, leading to long queues from as early as 5 AM. Initially, the DDCA had only one gate open, but as the crowd grew uncontrollable, more gates were opened to manage the flow.

Even Delhi Police had to step in to ensure security. The mad rush for seats once again highlighted Kohli’s unmatched pull, even in domestic cricket.

Railways scored 241 runs in their first innings. Upendra Yadav led the fightback, scoring 95 off 177 balls. Karn Sharma added a crucial half-century, ensuring Railways posted a competitive total. Siddhant Sharma and Navdeep Saini starred with the ball, reducing Railways to 21/2 in just six overs. Money Grewal’s two wickets in two balls tilted the match before Upendra and Karn steadied the ship.
