Indian cricket star Virat Kohli’s fiery attitude was on full display during the fourth Border-Gavaskar Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). After getting out on Day 2, Kohli’s frustration was visible when he got into a tense moment with some Australian fans, adding more drama to the already intense match.

The incident occurred as Kohli was walking back to the pavilion after he was dismissed for 36. A group of Australian fans started booing and throwing remarks his way. It was quite clearly trying to provoke him. Kohli stopped, turned around, and gave them an icy glare before a security guard stepped in and led him away. That was classic Kohli, his no-nonsense attitude when provoked.

Australian fans are known for being loud, but their treatment of Kohli has raised eyebrows. The Australian media has enticed the fans which has resulted in them going after Kohli. Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar even compared their antics to acting as Australia’s “12th man,” suggesting it’s all part of a plan to get under India’s skin.

This has sparked controversy on social media. Fans from the two nations are involved in altercations, trying to defend their stances. 

India in Trouble After Day 2

The off-field drama wasn’t the only thing haunting India. On the field, things fell apart late in the day. Going after a massive 474-run total, India were reduced to to 164/5 by stumps. Kohli’s dismissal proved as a turning point as India’s middle order struggled to steady the innings. 

Yashasvi Jaiswal looked solid with a well-made 82. However, a mix-up with Kohli led to his run-out, initiating a collapse. In just 40 minutes, India lost three quick wickets for a mere 11 runs. India are still 310 runs behind Australia’s score. They need 111 runs to avoid the ‘Follow-on’ on Day 3, with just 5 wickets in hand.
