Rajasthan Royals batter Dhruv Jurel came under fire for a controversial act in the final over of their match against Delhi Capitals. Fans labeled him “selfish” for denying a crucial second run to Shimron Hetmyer, a decision many believe cost RR the game.
Needing 9 runs in the final over, RR had Jurel and Hetmyer at the crease. With 3 runs needed off 2 balls, Hetmyer played a shot through covers. Jurel, however, refused a second run despite video replays showing it was clearly possible. The Royals eventually failed to get the required runs, sending the game into a Super Over.
“Dhruv Jurel wanted to be the hero but became the villain,” one user posted on X (formerly Twitter), summing up the mood online. Another fan called Jurel’s move “selfish & arrogant,” adding that it potentially ended RR’s season.
In a separate incident from the same match, Delhi Capitals bowling coach Munaf Patel was fined 25% of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct. The former pacer was involved in a heated exchange with the fourth umpire while attempting to send a message to players on the field. The league later confirmed the breach under Article 2.20 for conduct contrary to the spirit of the game.
Despite the chaos, Delhi Capitals held their nerve to win the Super Over. Mitchell Starc’s brilliant bowling restricted RR to just 11 runs. On the other hand, KL Rahul with Tristan Stubbs chased it down with ease. Starc was awarded Player of the Match for his clutch performance. His figures included 1/36 in regular overs and two key wickets in the Super Over.
The win lifted Delhi Capitals to the top of the IPL 2025 points table with 10 points from six matches. They now head to Ahmedabad to face Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday.
