Five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) are struggling in IPL 2025. They have managed to win just two out of six matches so far. Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra believes Rohit Sharma’s poor form is one of the main reasons. According to Chopra, Rohit’s lack of runs is affecting the team’s balance and performance.
The middle order, featuring Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma, has done most of the scoring. Captain Hardik Pandya has contributed more with the ball than the bat. But MI have not yet found the right team combination.
Chopra said Rohit must convert his starts into bigger scores. That would give MI solid starts and help them build competitive totals. Rohit is known for explosive batting in T20s. But this season has not gone his way. That’s worrying for Mumbai.
“Mumbai’s big problem is their unsettled batting order,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel. “That’s because Rohit Sharma is not scoring runs. When Rohit fails, the whole order gets shaky. You don’t know who should bat where. Rickelton, SKY, and Tilak are doing fine.”
He added, “Naman Dhir is batting well. Hardik Pandya is also in form. Will Jacks hasn’t scored yet. He was pushed down the order in the last match. But since Rohit is opening and failing, Naman Dhir has to bat too low. Rohit must score. Otherwise, Mumbai will struggle with him all season.”
Mumbai Indians are currently in seventh place on the Points Table after 32 matches. To reach the playoffs, they must win at least five of their remaining games. They also need big wins to boost their net run rate. The bowling unit looks strong. But the batting, especially the top order, must deliver. That’s key whether they bat first or chase.
