Gujarat Titans’ Glenn Phillips has apparently been ruled out of IPL 2025 due to an injury. Sri Lankan cricketer Dasun Shanaka is set to replace him.
New Zealand cricketer Glenn Phillips has been ruled out of IPL 2025. The all-rounder was contracted by the Gujarat Titans for INR 2 crores. Earlier, Phillips was at the Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 1.5 crores.
In the match against his former team, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Glenn Phillips suffered an injury while fielding. A groin injury to Phillips meant that Phillips couldn’t come back to the field. As it turned out, the injury would mean the end of the season for the all-rounder.
Glenn Phillips is known for his all-round abilities. The middle-order batter can hit long hits and be a menace to any bowling lineup. Until he remains on the field, he can change the momentum of any game. Moreover, he can contribute with his off-spin bowling and provide crucial wickets. Phillips is also known for his excellent fielding skills.
In the place of Glenn Phillips, Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka is set to join the Gujarat Titans. Shanaka, like Phillips, is known for his all-round abilities. He is a hard-hitting all-rounder who can also bowl medium-pace and swing the ball. His contributions in the lower middle order have been crucial for the Sri Lankan national side.
This won’t be the first time for Dasun Shanaka in the Gujarat Titans side. The all-rounder was part of the team in 2023. He made his debut for the Titans against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2023 season. He played 3 games for the side in the season.
Shanaka wasn’t retained for the next season. He was also not bought in the mega auction before IPL 2025. However, with the injury to Phillips, Shanaka has found an opportunity to come back to the tournament.
