Young batting sensation Ayush Badoni is eagerly anticipating a fierce contest against seasoned India pacer Ishant Sharma in the inaugural season of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2024. The league, which will be held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium from August 17 to September 8, promises to bring together some of Delhi’s finest cricketing talents in an exciting new format.
Badoni, who has made a name for himself with the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, was the top pick for the South Delhi Superstars during the pre-season player draft. Ishant Sharma, on the other hand, was one of the marquee signings for Purani Dilli 6. The upcoming DPL will give both players a chance to face off against each other, a prospect that Badoni is particularly thrilled about.
“What excites me most about the league is playing against Ishant Sharma,” Badoni shared in a media release. “We always have this banter that he’ll get me out, and I tell him I’ll hit him for sixes, so playing against him will be fun.”
Badoni is also excited about the competitive nature of the league, highlighting the aggressive style of cricket that Delhi players are known for. “Delhi players are known for their aggressive cricket. So, the DPL will be very competitive and fun to watch for cricket followers,” he added.
The young batter sees the DPL as a “mini IPL” and is hopeful that the tournament will provide valuable exposure for himself and other aspiring cricketers from Delhi.
In addition to his excitement for the tournament, Badoni spoke about his close connection with veteran Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan, who owns the South Delhi Superstars. “After the player draft, Shikhar bhai contacted me, and we’ve been regularly chatting about the team and our preparations,” Badoni revealed. “He is very confident with the team we have, and the environment is pretty relaxed. We’re looking forward to playing and lifting the DPL trophy.”
Badoni will be joined by other promising youngsters like Priyansh Arya and Kuldeep Yadav in the South Delhi Superstars squad. The franchise also has a women’s team that will compete under the same banner in a four-team tournament, adding to the excitement surrounding the DPL 2024.
