Ayush Badoni to Captain Delhi Ranji Squad Rishabh Pant Decline Leadership

LSG star Ayush Badoni has been named captain of Delhi’s Ranji Trophy squad for their upcoming matches. This decision comes despite the inclusion of senior players Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant in the team.

Will Virat Kohli Play?

Virat Kohli’s return to Delhi’s squad after a long gap is exciting, but his participation against Saurashtra isn’t confirmed yet. He’s reportedly dealing with a neck sprain from the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The DDCA will decide his availability closer to the game.

Rishabh Pant has also joined the squad but opted not to take on the captaincy. Instead, he’s choosing to focus on his game while supporting Badoni’s leadership. It’s a surprising move but shows Pant’s commitment to the team.

Ayush Badoni Named Delhi’s Captain

The DDCA has named Ayush Badoni as Delhi’s captain. After debuting for the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, he’s been consistent in the Ranji Trophy. In 12 matches, he’s scored 860 runs, averaging 53.75, with three centuries, a double ton, and a fifty.

His off-break bowling has been handy too. He has taken 11 wickets at an average of 21.64. While he’s yet to bag a five-wicket haul, his contributions with both bat and ball have been crucial.

Delhi’s next game against Saurashtra is a big one. It’s a chance to improve their standings in Elite Group A. After that, they’ll face Railways at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

New Domestic Rules

The BCCI has made it clear that senior players need to participate in domestic cricket. This rule keeps players eligible for national selection and central contracts. Kohli and Pant’s inclusion follows these guidelines, even though the captaincy baton is with Badoni.

The last time Kohli played a Ranji Trophy match was in 2012. He scored 14 in the first innings and a gritty 43 in the second. Fans are excited to see him back in domestic cricket after more than a decade.
