Mumbai Indians’ (MI) veteran opener Rohit Sharma has found himself in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons this IPL season. With just 38 runs from four matches in IPL 2025, the former India captain’s form has sparked concern among fans and pundits alike. However, former Australia captain Michael Clarke has thrown his support behind the struggling star, urging fans to be patient.

Clarke’s big backing

Speaking to PTI, Clarke praised Rohit’s pedigree and insisted that the MI stalwart is just one good knock away from returning to his best.

“I think Rohit’s an absolute superstar. It’s just a matter of time before he makes a hundred,” Clarke said. “It might be a 40 or 60 that gets him going. Once he finds rhythm, we’ll see the Rohit Sharma everyone knows.”

Rohit has only one fifty in his last 12 IPL innings, a stat that has added fuel to the ongoing debate about his T20 form. But Clarke emphasized the importance of trusting proven players, noting that even greats are allowed a few lean games.

“We all have high expectations of great players because they’ve been consistent for so long,” Clarke added. “But class is permanent. I wouldn’t be too concerned about his form.”

MI’s season so far

The five-time IPL champions have had a rocky start to their 2025 campaign, currently placed ninth on the points table with just one win from five matches. Rohit’s struggles at the top have directly impacted MI’s ability to get strong starts, putting pressure on the middle order.

The franchise will be hoping for a turnaround as they prepare to face Delhi Capitals in their next encounter at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

What’s next for Rohit?

While criticism of Rohit Sharma’s performances continues to mount, Clarke’s words may provide some much-needed perspective. The 36-year-old opener has been one of the IPL’s most successful batters over the years, and fans will hope he can rediscover his touch before it’s too late for MI this season.

As the pressure builds, all eyes will be on the Delhi clash—could this be the match where Rohit finally roars back?
