David Warner set for PSL debut, “I want to compete, captain the Karachi Kings…”

David Warner, former Australia player is set for his PSL debut this year. Warner will be captaining Karachi Kings as captain. With experience of playing various franchise league, creating a legacy in IPL, now the Australia legend is aiming make his name in PSL.

Warner ready for PSL debut

David Warner is the new captain of Karachi Kings in Pakistan Super League. During his first press conference as the Kings captain, he said that he is now fully available for the tournament after retirement from internation cricket. Karachi Kings will take on Multan Sultans led by Mohammad Rizwan in their opening match. Ahead of the same Warner faced media.

A reporter asked him about the trolls he is receiving from Indian fans for playing in the PSL. Warner was not picked during the IPL auction last year despite being a legend of the league. So the reporter asked for his reaction to the hate being spread. However, former Australia captain denies such claims.

“This is the first I’ve heard of it. From my perspective, I want to play cricket. There’s an opportunity to come to PSL. My international calendar didn’t allow me to come to PSL due to the timings. Now, I want to compete, captain the Karachi Kings, and hopefully we are able to win the trophy,” Warner said.

Warner’s legacy in IPL

David Warner, an IPL legend played for Delhi Capitals in the previous IPL and also led the franchise in 2023 in absence of regular captain Rishabh Pant. The franchise released Warner ahead of the last IPL auction where he remained unsold.

However, Warner remains of the most successful overseas players in the history of Indian Premier League. With 6565 runs in 184 games, he is the fourth-highest scorer in the league, only behind Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, and Rohit Sharma. He represented two franchises in his IPL career- Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Warner also led Hyderabad to their title victory in 2016.
