In a remarkable display of resilience and determination, Indian seamer Deepak Chahar is eyeing a return to the national team after overcoming a series of setbacks due to injuries. The 31-year-old, who last donned the Indian jersey in December of the previous year, is now fully recovered from his hamstring and back issues and is eager to make a triumphant comeback.
Chahar’s journey has been plagued by injuries, with a back injury sidelining him for the entire 2022 IPL season and forcing him to miss the T20 World Cup in Australia. His recent hamstring injury saw him miss six IPL games while representing the Chennai Super Kings. However, Chahar remains undeterred, emphasizing that injuries are an inevitable part of a cricketer’s life and that he is committed to staying fit and contributing to the team whenever given the opportunity.
Deepak Chahar confident of his comeback
Speaking at a promotional event in New Delhi, Chahar expressed his determination, stating, “My priority right now is to remain fit and be available for the team. I will give my 100% for the team whenever I get a chance.” He also highlighted his recent participation in the Rajasthan Premier League (RPL) tournament and his practice sessions with the Indian team, which is preparing for the Asian Games in China.
Since his debut in 2018, Chahar has shown his prowess in limited-overs cricket, amassing 16 wickets in 12 ODIs and 29 wickets in 24 T20Is. Although he is not part of the Indian squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup at home, Chahar’s dream remains unshaken. “A cricketer’s dream is to play the World Cup and win it for the country. I will try to complete it whenever I get a chance,” he asserted.
Chahar also expressed gratitude for the invaluable lessons he’s learned from former India captain MS Dhoni, whom he considers an elder brother and idol. He spoke highly of Dhoni’s influence on his career, both as a player and as a human being.
