Dinesh Karthik has been officially named the ambassador for the SA20 league as it prepares for its 2025 edition. The announcement was made on August 5, highlighting Karthik’s role in promoting the tournament alongside former teammate AB de Villiers.
The SA20 league, which has quickly gained popularity in its first two seasons, has captivated audiences and players alike with its exciting format and a showcase of emerging talent. Karthik’s appointment is seen as a significant step in expanding the league’s reach, particularly in India, where it already enjoys a robust fanbase thanks to franchises owned by Indian Premier League (IPL) teams.
Karthik, who recently transitioned to a mentor and batting coach role with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) after retiring from professional cricket, expressed his enthusiasm for the league. “I’m thrilled to join the SA20 as an ambassador. The league has been electric in the first two seasons, featuring some of the world’s best players and exciting young talent. It’s a privilege to be associated with the Betway SA20, and I look forward to working with Graeme Smith and his team,” he stated.
Graeme Smith, the SA20 League commissioner, welcomed Karthik’s involvement, emphasizing its potential impact on the league’s global stature. “We are thrilled to welcome DK as an ambassador for SA20 Season 3. His exceptional cricketing talent and personality make him the perfect fit for our league, and his involvement will undoubtedly elevate the league’s status globally and in India. We look forward to a fantastic season ahead,” Smith said.
As the SA20 league prepares for its next season, which will run from January 9 to February 8, 2025, the addition of prominent international players like Kane Williamson, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, and Jonny Bairstow enhances its appeal. With Karthik’s role as ambassador, the league aims to strengthen its presence and attract even more fans to the exhilarating world of T20 cricket.
