Rohit Sharma creates a record, Becomes the first batter to hit 100 sixes at Wankhede

As the Mumbai Indians take down the Sunrisers Hyderabad in Mumbai, it was time for Rohit Sharma to create another record. The veteran batter became the first one to hit 100 sixes at the legendary venue.

Six off Mohammed Shami

On the third ball of the third over, Rohit Sharma took on Mohammed Shami. The fast-bowler bowled a back-of-a-length delivery outside off. Rohit played a premeditated hoick across the line, trying to hit it over deep midwicket.

However, the ball took the outside edge and went towards the deep third-man instead. It still had so much power that the ball travelled the distance and went for a six. It brought up Rohit Sharma’s century of sixes at the venue.

Rohit went on to score 2 more sixes in his innings. He hit one more against Shami in the same over. As the bowler bowled another back-of-a-length delivery, Rohit pulled it with his trademark elegance. He deposited it in the top-tier over square leg.

In the next over against Pat Cummins, Sharma hit a six over square leg again. However, he was dismissed in the same over. Sharma played a lofted cover drive on a full toss. However, he was unfortunate to find Travis Head stationed right there. The Australian did not have to move to catch the ball.

Thus, Rohit was dismissed for 26 off 16 balls. The MI opener looked in great touch till he lasted on the field. However, he would have liked to play a longer inning and contribute to MI’s batting.

Virat tops the list

Rohit Sharma became the first batter to reach a century of sixes at the Wankhede. However, three batters are ahead of Sharma if other venues are considered. All three batters have played for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and their record is at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Virat Kohli tops the chart with 130 sixes. Chris Gayle comes second with 127 sixes. AB de Villiers is the third on the list with 118 sixes.
