Gujarat Titans (GT) have taken the field for Match 26 of IPL 2025 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) without explosive New Zealand all-rounder Glenn Phillips in their squad. Fans looking forward to Phillips’ debut this season were left wondering why he wasn’t included in today’s playing XI. Keep Reading To find out Why Glenn Phillips Is not Playing Today.
Glenn Phillips Ruled Out of IPL 2025 Due to Groin Injury
Glenn Phillips has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2025 after suffering a groin injury during Gujarat Titans’ match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 6. The injury occurred while Phillips was fielding as a substitute, and has since been deemed serious enough to send him back home for rehabilitation.
GT Statement: “Glenn Phillips has returned to New Zealand following a groin injury. We wish him a speedy recovery.”
Glenn Phillips’ Absence – A Blow to Gujarat Titans
Although Glenn Phillips hadn’t yet made his IPL 2025 debut, his:
Explosive batting
Sharp fielding
And flexibility as an all-rounder
…made him a valuable overseas asset in Gujarat’s squad. The Kiwi star is especially known for his finishing prowess and high-impact performances in limited-overs formats.
His injury, along with Kagiso Rabada’s absence due to personal reasons, has left GT short on overseas firepower as they navigate the mid-phase of the tournament.
With Phillips ruled out, GT continues to rely on:
Jos Buttler, Sherfane Rutherford, and Rashid Khan as their overseas core
Arshad Khan, Sai Sudharsan, and Shahrukh Khan to take on added responsibility
A strong Indian pace attack led by Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna
Despite these setbacks, GT sits comfortably near the top of the IPL 2025 points table, showcasing their depth and balance.
