“He’s Like an Elder Brother”, Kuldeep Yadav Credits Rohit Sharma’s Captaincy for Resurgence

Kuldeep Yadav has emerged as a key figure in India’s bowling attack once again, and he attributes a significant part of his resurgence to the leadership of captain Rohit Sharma. After a two-year hiatus following the 2019 World Cup, Kuldeep Yadav has found himself back in the national team and is firing on all cylinders.

Yadav’s Stellar Performance: World Cup Success and Test Return

Kuldeep Yadav’s impressive form has been undeniable.  He was instrumental in India’s journey to the 2022 ODI World Cup final, claiming a remarkable 15 wickets throughout the tournament.  His contributions extended beyond the white-ball format, as he also earned a recall to the Test side during the home series against England.  In this series, he displayed his prowess once more, taking a staggering 19 wickets in four out of the five matches played.

In a recent interview on Vimal Kumar’s YouTube channel, Kuldeep Yadav shed light on the positive impact of Rohit Sharma’s captaincy.  He described Sharma’s leadership style as having a distinct “aura” that attracts and motivates players.  More importantly, Kuldeep Yadav emphasized the captain’s ability to foster a sense of camaraderie within the team.

“Rohit bhai has that Aura which all players attract to him, he is like our elder brother. He understands every player and loves and cares for every player in the team. He treats the team like a family,” Kuldeep Yadav remarked.

Immediate Impact for Delhi Capitals After IPL Hiatus

Kuldeep Yadav’s return to form has extended to the ongoing IPL 2024 season.  While he initially missed a few games for the Delhi Capitals, his return to the playing XI proved to be a turning point.  He made an instant impact in the match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), claiming three crucial wickets – Marcus Stoinis, KL Rahul, and Nicholas Pooran – to dismantle LSG’s middle order.  This bowling performance by Yadav was a significant factor in the Delhi Capitals’ convincing victory, where they chased down a target of 167 with 11 balls to spare.

Kuldeep Yadav’s exceptional bowling display earned him the Player of the Match award.  Reflecting on his performance, he highlighted the significance of the wickets he captured.  “I liked the first and second wickets, I have played a lot against Pooran and the execution for that was right. I was clear with my plans, just the length matters for me as a spinner. Very clear and confident with my skills,” Kuldeep Yadav explained.

He also discussed his approach to the Decision Review System (DRS), revealing a collaborative strategy with his captain, Rishabh Pant.  “Whenever I feel the DRS call is 50/50, I try to push for it but when it is more 60/40 then I tend to listen to Rishabh. As a bowler, you obviously want to take the DRS whenever possible. We’ve got 2 reviews, so obviously one is for me (laughs off),” Yadav said.  This insight into their communication highlights the team’s focus on working together to make the most informed decisions on the field.
