Chennai Super Kings have been struck with a major blow as their ace all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has been ruled out for 2 weeks. He has suffered a Grade 1 hamstring tear that will keep him out of action for a while.
Michael Hussey, the batting coach of CSK, informed about Dwayne Bravo’s Injury. He reckons it’s a huge loss but banks on the backups to do the job.
“It’s going to cause a little bit of rejigging of the team but I am sure we are going to be able to put together a very strong team. It’s a big loss but we have had these challenges in the past. Let’s hope we can do this again,” said Hussey as quoted by Cricbuzz.
Dwayne Bravo has been used primarily for his bowling skills during the slog overs. In his absence, Hussey pointed out a few names who can fill in. He also feels that CSK’s latest recruit Scott Kuggeleijn would also be considered for a place in the XI.
“I am sure MS [Dhoni] and [Stephen] Fleming will be looking at Scott Kuggeleijn and assessing his death bowling skills. We’ve got Shardul [Thakur]. Mohit [Sharma] can bowl at the death as well. It’s about assessing the conditions. If it’s turning, I think one of the spinners can bowl at the death. I am sure there will be a lot of strategic thinking and it’s a key area of the game,” added Hussey.
Before Bravo, CSK had lost 2 key overseas players. While Lungi Ngidi was ruled out for the entire tournament due to injury, David Willey had pulled out owing to personal reasons. The defending champions have had a great campaign so far in IPL 2019 as they have won 3 out of 4 games. However, without Bravo, they might have a tough time and the others would need to step up.
