Ramandeep Singh, a KKR all-rounder recently spoke about his experiences of playing under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. Ramandeep who made his IPL debut in Mumbai Indias, called Rohit a true leader
Ramandeep Singh has become a well-known knight who is a handy spinner and power-hitter for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. However, Ramandeep debuted in IPL in Mumbai India three years back under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. Speaking of the same, in a podcast show hosted by Raj Shamani, Ramadeep recalled an incident involving Dhoni’s batting.
“There was a good belief in my batting, but the crowd, you are bowling your first-ever ball, when in IPL, its a very different scenario because you have never experienced that in your life before. You don’t know what is going to happen, the batter could have a good day,” he said.
He continued, “So when Rohit gave me the ball and Dhoni was batting, he told me in our first conversation, ‘I want MS Dhoni to smash you’. Because they had lost seven wickets at that point. So if they hit us, good, but if they get out while trying to hit us, then we will win. He already told me earlier there’s no problem. Only a captain can give you that feeling, that freedom which you get in a team, it can only be given through a captain. He is a true leader.”
Ramandeep’s IPL debut happened in 2022 as a Mumbai Indians player. The match that Ramandeep was talking about eventually saw Mumbai winning against Chennai by five wickets. It was the 59th match of the season and Ramandeep got the ball when CSK were eight wickets down in the first innings. Dhoni remained unbeaten with 36 off 33 but Chennai Super Kings could score only 97 in 16 overs. Expectedly Mumbai scored the required runs within 15th over at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.
