Mohammad Rizwan is not pleased with the way the PCB treated him and Babar Azam after the Champions Trophy 2025 campaign. Report suggests that the Pakistan captain has been frustrated with the board’s behaviour towards them after the group-stage exit.
As Pakistan failed to win a single match in the Champions Trophy despite hosting the tournament, the Pakistan Cricket Board selectors started to focus on next year’s T20 World Cup. Therefore, they dripped the seniors like Babar Azam and Rizwan for the five-match T20I series in New Zealand. They picked a new squad led by Salman Agha keeping the upcoming T20 World Cup in mind.
A Telecom Asia Sport report suggests that sources told the website how frustrated Rizwan was to see the treatment he and Babar received from the board after Champions Trophy exit. Reportedly, the duo are scheduled to meet the board chairman Mohsin Naqvi in the next few days “to get clarity on his selection in the T20I format.” The report also says that Rizwan “wants more power as captain or else will resign.”
The PCB source said: “Rizwan will seek more power in the selection of eleven in the match and there is a possibility that if not given full powers then he might resign from ODI captaincy.” The source confirmed that Rizwan argued with Pakistan’s interim head coach Aaqib Javed regarding the selection procedure.
On the other hand, the report also mentions how the Pakistan Cricket Borad already informed Javed about his interim position to be replaced with full-time foreign coach soon. The report suggest that the board is considering a number of foreign coaches in line for a full-time role. The former Pakistan cricketer had taken over the role of a coach of the white-ball team in November last year till the end of the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Meanwhile, Pakistan players are currently busy with Pakistan Super League, which will continue till May 18. Then they will host Bangladesh for five T20Is.
