Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, one of the twelve venues selected by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the upcoming ODI World Cup, has commenced its outfield renovation in preparation for the prestigious tournament. Alongside Wankhede, four other stadiums including Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, PCA Stadium in Mohali, Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad, and Eden Gardens in Kolkata have also been picked by the BCCI to undergo phased renovations.
Second phase of renovation in Wankhede
Earlier this year, Wankhede Stadium underwent its initial phase of refurbishment, which encompassed the enhancement of commentary boxes, common areas, and restrooms. These improvements were completed in February-March, just before the enthralling ODI series between India and Australia. The ongoing renovation at Wankhede marks the second phase of its transformation as the stadium aims to provide state-of-the-art facilities for players and spectators alike.
However, the timing of the repairs has presented a challenge for the BCCI, as the monsoon season in India coincides with the renovation schedule. Despite this hurdle, BCCI officials remain optimistic that the monsoon will not impede the progress of the renovations, including the crucial outfield work. With the 2023 World Cup merely four months away and the International Cricket Council (ICC) yet to release the tournament schedule, the BCCI is leaving no stone unturned to ensure a seamless and hassle-free event.
BCCI ensuring everything falls in place
The impending ODI World Cup is generating great excitement among cricket enthusiasts around the globe, who eagerly anticipate witnessing high-quality matches in iconic stadiums. As the BCCI works tirelessly to finalize the tournament’s schedule, cricket fans can rest assured that every effort is being made to deliver a memorable and flawlessly executed event.
With the backdrop of outfield renovations at Wankhede Stadium and the upcoming upgrades at other renowned venues, the cricketing world eagerly awaits the official announcement of the World Cup schedule. As the countdown to the tournament begins, the BCCI remains committed to creating an unforgettable spectacle that showcases the best of cricket in a country renowned for its passion for the game.
