The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has called on the International Cricket Council (ICC) to finalize the schedule for the much-anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Pakistan, set to host this major event, is keen to make logistical preparations for all competing teams. This will be the first ICC tournament held in Pakistan in years, and excitement is high among the country’s cricket fans.
Importance of Early Scheduling
In discussions with ICC officials, the PCB stressed the need for timely schedule finalization to ensure smooth logistical planning. Provisional bookings for hotels, travel, and venues have already been made based on a proposed schedule, but these arrangements need to be confirmed once the official dates are released. According to reports, the ICC is expected to announce the finalized schedule by the end of October 2024.
Group Stage Lineup
The proposed schedule places Pakistan in Group A alongside Bangladesh, New Zealand, and their arch-rivals, India. Group B consists of England, South Africa, Australia, and Afghanistan. The tournament is scheduled to kick off on February 19, 2025, with the final set for March 9, unless a reserve day is required on March 10.
India’s Participation Uncertain
India’s participation in the Champions Trophy remains uncertain due to geopolitical tensions between the two nations. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is currently awaiting government approval before confirming their involvement. India has not played in Pakistan since 2008, and the rivalry between the two sides will be one of the tournament’s main highlights if they participate.
Venues Announced
The three venues for the tournament have been confirmed: Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi. These cities will host all the matches, with Pakistan pulling out all the stops to ensure the smooth running of the event and provide a world-class experience for players and fans alike.
England’s Tour of Pakistan
Meanwhile, England’s Test team is scheduled to arrive in Pakistan on October 2, 2024, to play a three-match series. The first two Tests will take place in Multan, with the final Test to be held in Rawalpindi. This tour marks England’s first return to Pakistan since their 3-0 Test series whitewash in December 2022.
