Ravindra Jadeja is back in domestic cricket. The star all-rounder joined the Saurashtra team on Sunday as they prepared for their next Ranji Trophy game. Saurashtra will face Delhi in Rajkot from January 23.
Jadeja’s return comes almost a year after his last Ranji match. In January 2023, he led Saurashtra against Tamil Nadu in Chennai. While the team hasn’t confirmed his place yet, there’s a strong chance he will play.
The BCCI has asked all international players to join domestic cricket when available. Jadeja isn’t the only big name returning. Rohit Sharma has confirmed he will play for Mumbai against Jammu and Kashmir. Rishabh Pant is set to represent Delhi in the same match where Jadeja might play. Yashasvi Jaiswal will also feature for Mumbai.
Shubman Gill is set to play for Punjab. Reports have indicated that KL Rahul might join Karnataka for their next game. However, Virat Kohli is unlikely to feature as he continues to recover from injury.
Jadeja trained with the Saurashtra squad on Sunday. A final decision on his participation will come closer to the match. Multiple media reports have confirmed that Jadeja will feature in Saurashtra’s next game against Delhi. If he plays, he will go up against his India teammate Rishabh Pant.
BCCI wants top players to spend more time in domestic matches. Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar said it’s important for players to stay match-ready. “Whenever they are free, they should play,” he said. If players do not comply with BCCI’s guidelines, they may receive pay cuts and even get banned from participating in the IPL.
The Saurashtra vs. Delhi match promises to be a thrilling game. The match is scheduled to begin on Thursday, 23rd January. The game will most likely be broadcasted on Jio Cinema.
