Rinku Singh's Father Reacts to T20 World Cup Exclusion

Indian cricketer Rinku Singh‘s exclusion from the 15-man squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup has stirred emotions, with his family expressing deep disappointment and former cricketers questioning the selection process.

Rinku’s father, Khanchandra Singh, spoke to Bharat 24 about his son’s reaction to not being named in the main squad. He revealed that the family had high hopes for Rinku’s selection and had even prepared sweets and crackers to celebrate the occasion. However, their hopes were dashed as Rinku was named in the traveling reserves instead. Despite the setback, Rinku remained positive, speaking to his mother and acknowledging that while he wasn’t in the final 15, he was still part of the 18-man squad heading to the T20 World Cup.

Rinku Singh’s Father said

Khanchandra Singh’s words reflect the rollercoaster of emotions that often accompany selection processes in sports. He said, “We had a lot of hope that he will be named in the squad. We had brought sweets and crackers as well as we felt he will be a part of the eleven. Uska to dil toota hai aisi baat nai hai (it is not that he is heartbroken). He spoke to his mother and said that while he is not named in the 15, he is in the 18 and is going (to the T20 World Cup).”

Former cricketers have also voiced their disappointment over Rinku’s exclusion. Ambati Rayudu, a former Indian batter, indirectly criticized the selectors for not picking players based on quality. He highlighted Rinku’s consistency as a finisher for India over the past two years, emphasizing that cricketing ability should take precedence over other factors.

Rayudu’s sentiments were echoed by others who questioned the decision-making process. Rinku’s impressive record in T20Is further adds to the confusion surrounding his exclusion. In just 15 T20Is for India, he boasts an average of 89 and a remarkable strike rate of 176.23, making his omission even more puzzling.
