In a massive development ahead of Chennai Super Kings’ crucial clash against Kolkata Knight Riders, star opener and CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out of IPL 2025 due to an elbow injury. The franchise confirmed the news on Thursday, announcing the return of MS Dhoni as captain for the remainder of the season.

The injury to Gaikwad, sustained during the match on March 30, had been a concern for some time. Despite trying to push through and playing a couple of matches, the injury has now officially sidelined him, marking a significant blow to the five-time champions.

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s Emotional Message to CSK Fans

Shortly after the announcement, CSK shared a heartfelt video message from Ruturaj Gaikwad on social media. In the video, Gaikwad expressed his disappointment over not being able to lead the team and wished the team well under the legendary MS Dhoni.

“Hello everyone, Ruturaj this side. Really gutted to be missing the future part of the IPL due to an unfortunate elbow injury. But thank you for your support until now,” said the opener.

“Yes, we’ve been struggling, and now with a young wicketkeeper no longer leading, hopefully, things will change. I’m going to be there with the team, support them from the dug-out, and hopefully, we’ll have a great season ahead,” he added.

MS Dhoni Returns: Can CSK Turn Their Season Around?

Dhoni’s return to captaincy is being seen as a pivotal moment in CSK’s season. The team has been on a disappointing run of form, including a tough loss to Punjab Kings where they failed to chase down 219.

With CSK stuck in the bottom half of the points table, the experience and calm leadership of MS Dhoni could be the turning point they desperately need.

Chepauk Challenge Awaits

CSK’s home ground, the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, has not been the fortress fans are used to seeing this season. Losses at home and frustrations expressed by head coach Stephen Fleming following a massive defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru have added pressure.

As CSK prepare to face KKR in a do-or-die encounter, fans will hope that Dhoni’s leadership can spark a comeback. A win is not just crucial for the points table, but also for morale — and possibly, for keeping playoff hopes alive.
