Playing against the Rajasthan Royals, Gujarat Titans lost their captain Shubman Gill early in the inning. However, Sai Sudarshan, the other GT opener, took the attack to the RR bowlers and scored a spectacular half-century.
Gujarat Titans did not have the best start against the Rajasthan Royals. They lost the in-form batter Shubman Gill for just 2 runs in the third over. RR’s bowler, Jofra Archer, was on song with the new ball. He was breathing fire and bowled a 147km/h inswinger to dismiss Gill.
Despite the early wicket, GT did not back down. Jos Buttler joined Sai Sudarshan, and the two stitched an 80-run partnership in no time. They kept the scoring rate high as they struck boundaries at regular intervals. Buttler was dismissed for 36 off 25 balls by Theekshana. He played with a strike rate of 144 and hit 5 fours.
Buttler was replaced by Shahrukh Khan. Shahrukh and Sudarshan stitched another crucial partnership of 62 runs. Shahrukh played aggressively and hit 4 fours and 2 sixes. He was eventually dismissed for 36 off 20 balls. It was Theekshana again who took the wicket for RR.
Sai Sudarshan played a spectacular inning to power his team to a total beyond 200. The opener was solid in his approach and did not give his wicket away. He scored 82 runs off just 53 balls. In the process, he struck 8 fours and 3 sixes at a strike rate of 154.72. He ensured one end was safe almost throughout the inning. He lost his wicket in the penultimate over when he edged one to Sanju Samson off the bowling of Tushar Deshpande.
