Australia’s former captain, Steve Smith, has expressed curiosity about England’s Bazball strategy and its effectiveness against the Australian bowlers in the upcoming Ashes series. Smith showcased his mastery by scoring his 31st Test century during the World Test Championship 2023 final at The Oval. His brilliant innings of 121 off 268 deliveries helped Australia post a massive total of 469 runs on the board. Smith’s innings included 19 fours, highlighting his exceptional batting skills.
Smith ready to tackle Bazball
On Day 2, Australia’s bowlers put India on the backfoot, reducing them to 151/5 by stumps. Each bowler claimed a wicket, with Pat Cummins dismissing Rohit Sharma, Scott Boland removing Shubman Gill, Cameron Green dismissing Cheteshwar Pujara, and Mitchell Starc getting the crucial wicket of Virat Kohli.
Regarding England’s Bazball strategy, Smith expressed skepticism about its effectiveness against the Australian bowlers, especially on pitches that offer variable bounce and seam movement. Despite acknowledging the success of England’s aggressive tactics against other teams, Smith emphasized that Australia’s formidable bowling attack will present a different challenge.
Australia all set for Ashes
Reflecting on England’s cricket team, Smith admitted that they have made significant strides in Test cricket over the past year. However, he emphasized that the true test awaits them when they face the Australian team.
Following the conclusion of the World Test Championship final, Australia will now shift their focus to the highly-anticipated Ashes series against England. The five-match Test series will commence on June 16 at Edgbaston in Birmingham, with the final Test scheduled to be held at Kennington Oval in London from June 27 to 31.
As cricket enthusiasts eagerly await the clash between the two arch-rivals, all eyes will be on how England’s aggressive approach fares against Australia’s formidable bowling attack. The Ashes series promises to deliver thrilling encounters and captivating performances, showcasing the enduring spirit of one of the oldest rivalries in cricket.
