Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) suffered a crushing defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2024, leaving their captain Faf du Plessis struggling to come to terms with the loss. The match, held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, witnessed a record total of 287 runs by SRH, the highest ever in IPL history.
Du Plessis expressed his dismay, stating, “It’s crazy the amount of runs scored today, a world record. I wouldn’t say 270 is par, Danny. It’s tough (to bowl on a day like this), we tried a few things and they weren’t quite working.” He highlighted the challenges faced by his bowlers and the need to improve.
The RCB bowling unit, missing their key bowler Mohammed Siraj, struggled against SRH’s aggressive batting. Du Plessis admitted, “There’s no way to hide when your confidence is low. The fast bowlers found it quite difficult out there. Similar to the batting perspective, we need to work on a few areas.” He emphasized the importance of maintaining a good run rate and praised his team for their fighting spirit.
Du Plessis also discussed the mental toll of the game, stating, “It’s important to go away and freshen your mind, it’s such a mental game. Sometimes you feel your mind is going to explode. When you get back to the contest you have to give full commitment.” He acknowledged the pressure of performing consistently in every match.
RCB’s defeat against SRH marks their fifth consecutive loss in the tournament, leaving them at the bottom of the points table. Despite their struggles, Du Plessis remains hopeful and focused on improving the team’s performance in the upcoming matches.
