Chennai’s batting coach Michale Hussey is still hopeful of the side making to the next stage of IPL 2025. He believes that the senior players of CSK still have a lot of cricket left in them. According to him, “we can still see some great performances from them”.
Michale Hussey, the batting coach of Chennai Super Kings defended the players and team even after their heavy defeat at Chepauk last night. CSK look hapless and surrendered to Kolkata Knight Riders at their home. They registered their lowest total at Chepauk in the process and also lost five out six matches in the IPL 2024 so far.
However, Hussey wants to keep faith in the seniors and the team strategy. The social media is questioning CSK team selection every other day. CSK have too many senior players who have past their prime period as per the experts and fans. In fact, MS Dhoni became the oldest captain of IPL yesterday and also the only uncapped player to have led a side in this league. Hussey however defended the seniors and said, “I would argue that they’re not beyond their prime. We’ve had players in the twilight of their careers come and play for CSK in the past—Shane Watson and Ajinkya Rahane come to mind—and they’ve performed really well.”
He added, “I still believe the players we have now have good cricket left in them and can offer a lot. I don’t necessarily agree that they’re past their best. I think we can still see some great performances from them.”
Chennai Super Kings have youngsters like Shaikh Rasheed and Andre Siddharth in the batting department. But CSK management wants to keep showing faith to the experienced players. “As for blooding youngsters, we want to pick players when they’re ready to perform. We do have some very talented players waiting for their chance—no question about that.”
“But sometimes, when teams feel like they can’t win the tournament anymore, they just throw in the youngsters to give them a go. We’re not in that mindset. We’re still here to progress as far as we can in the tournament. We’re certainly not giving up yet,” Hussey explained in the post-match conference.
