Virat Kohli Likely to Miss Ranji Trophy Match Against Saurashtra

Virat Kohli’s participation in Delhi’s upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Saurashtra is uncertain. The star Indian batter is reportedly dealing with a neck sprain. Delhi is set to face Saurashtra in the Elite Group D match in Rajkot from January 23 to 26. According to a Times of India report, Kohli has already taken an injection to manage the injury.

Is Virat Kohli Injured?

A source quoted by TOI stated, “Virat Kohli had a neck sprain and even took an injection for the same. There is a possibility of him skipping the first of the two Ranji Trophy games left, and a clear picture could come if the DDCA selectors are given an update.”

The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has hinted at including Kohli’s name in the Ranji Trophy squad but with the tag “subject to availability.”

Despite the injury, Kohli might join his Delhi teammates for training in Rajkot. Even if he doesn’t play, his presence could boost the morale of the squad. The Delhi team is scheduled to travel to Rajkot on January 20, with two training sessions planned before the match begins.

Mandatory Domestic Participation

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has emphasized the importance of domestic cricket for national players. As per BCCI guidelines, participation in domestic matches is mandatory to remain eligible for national selection and central contracts. “Non-compliance may lead to disciplinary action, including bans from BCCI tournaments or deductions from player retainers,” stated the guidelines. Players could receive salary cuts and even be banned from the IPL if they do not comply.

In positive news for Delhi, star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has confirmed his availability for the match against Saurashtra. Pant’s inclusion strengthens Delhi’s lineup and raises expectations for the upcoming game. Some officials also believe he may participate in the second match against Railways.
