Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have faced a string of injury concerns ahead of their IPL 2025 campaign, and pacer Avesh Khan is the latest addition to the list. Avesh has been ruled out of today’s IPL 2025 match against Delhi Capitals (DC), being played at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.
Speaking ahead of the crucial encounter, LSG head coach Justin Langer confirmed that Avesh Khan will miss the fixture due to a minor knee niggle. The team management has decided not to rush the right-arm pacer back into action, opting instead to give him time to fully recover and avoid aggravating the injury.
Avesh Khan’s absence adds to LSG’s growing list of injury setbacks this season. Fast bowler Mayank Yadav is already sidelined after injuring his toe while recovering from a back injury. Additionally, the franchise ruled out left-arm seamer Mohsin Khan due to a calf injury and brought in all-rounder Shardul Thakur as his replacement.
Akash Deep, another key member of the LSG pace unit, is also nursing a back injury, leaving the team’s bowling resources stretched thin.
Avesh Khan, who was traded from Rajasthan Royals ahead of the IPL 2024 season, played a pivotal role for LSG last year, delivering crucial breakthroughs with his sharp pace and control in the middle overs. His absence leaves a significant gap in the bowling attack, especially against a strong Delhi Capitals batting lineup led by David Warner and Rishabh Pant.
While there is no confirmed timeline for Avesh’s return, sources close to the team suggest he might be available for LSG’s next match, depending on his fitness assessment over the next few days.
Lucknow will be hoping that Avesh Khan returns quickly to the setup and boost Lucknow’s bowling.
