Rahul flew back to Mumbai on Sunday night. He received the news that his wife could deliver anytime. Delhi Capitals management quickly approved his request to leave.
Rahul has returned home to Mumbai as his wife, Athiya Shetty, is expecting their first child.
A family source confirmed the situation. “He has gone home because the baby is expected anytime. He will be back for the next match,” the source revealed.
Delhi Capitals will play their season opener against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on March 25 in Visakhapatnam. Rahul is expected to rejoin the squad before their second match. The Capitals will face Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 30.
KL Rahul has been in fine form lately. He was one of India’s top performers in their recent Champions Trophy win in Dubai. However, Rahul has not featured in India’s T20I squad. During the tournament, he expressed his aim to return to the T20I setup.
Delhi Capitals bought Rahul for INR 12 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction. He parted ways with Lucknow Super Giants after leading them for three seasons.
Before joining the Delhi Capitals camp, Rahul trained under Abhishek Nayar, India’s assistant coach, in Mumbai.
