Abhishek Sharma stole the spotlight on April 12 during Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) match against Punjab Kings. The 24-year-old opener smashed a fiery knock and helped SRH seal a vital win. After struggling for form earlier in the season, Abhishek finally found his rhythm with the bat.
His celebration caught as much attention as his innings. Right after completing his hundred, Abhishek pulled out a handwritten note from his pocket. It read, “This one is for Orange Army.” Fans and teammates applauded the emotional moment.
Travis Head, his SRH teammate, spoke to broadcasters after the match. He said Abhishek had carried that note since the start of the season.
“The note has been in Abhishek’s pocket for 6 games. Glad he finally used it tonight,” Head said.
This created a buzz among fans. Many believed Abhishek had planned the celebration since match one.
However, Abhishek quickly cleared the air. During the post-match press conference, he revealed the truth.
“I wrote it today itself. I wake up and often write random thoughts. This morning, I just felt like writing that if I did well, it would be for the Orange Army,” Abhishek said.
He called it a spontaneous gesture. The left-hander said he didn’t expect the moment to arrive, but was glad it did.
Abhishek smashed a 19-ball half-century. He looked confident and aggressive from the start. His partnership with Travis Head provided SRH a strong start. They chased the target with ease and earned their second win of the season.
This victory lifted SRH from the bottom of the table to eighth place with four points. Abhishek’s innings not only ended his poor run but also proved his match-winning ability. The team will now look to keep this momentum going into the tournament.
