WTC Final: KS Bharat’s Brilliant Catch Evokes Memories of Dhoni

The World Test Championship (WTC) final witnessed a moment of sheer brilliance as KS Bharat, with his remarkable catch, evoked memories of the legendary MS Dhoni. On the first day of the highly-anticipated clash between India and New Zealand, Bharat’s acrobatic dive dismissed David Warner for a well-made 43 runs.

The catch not only marked the end of Warner’s innings but also immediately drew comparisons to Dhoni’s unparalleled prowess behind the stumps. Interestingly, Bharat’s inclusion in the team for the WTC final had sparked a significant debate on the internet. Many experts favored the selection of Ishan Kishan over Bharat. However, it was Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian team, who firmly stood behind Bharat and ensured his inclusion in the squad. Bharat proved Sharma’s faith well-placed by delivering an outstanding performance.

Adding to the significance of Bharat’s catch was the valuable advice he received from none other than Mahendra Singh Dhoni himself. Bharat revealed in an interview with the International Cricket Council (ICC) earlier that he had a conversation with Dhoni during the recent Indian Premier League (IPL). Dhoni generously shared his experiences of keeping in England and offered insights into what works best for a wicket-keeper.  

Bharat, appreciating Dhoni’s wisdom, emphasized the importance of awareness in a wicketkeeper. He regarded Dhoni as the epitome of this trait, acknowledging his outstanding awareness behind the stumps. Bharat highlighted the necessity of intent and passion for a keeper, acknowledging the challenges and the need for unwavering concentration during long Test match days.
