India’s promising opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is under the spotlight for all the wrong reasons in IPL 2025. With a string of underwhelming performances for Rajasthan Royals, questions are mounting over the young left-hander’s form and mindset. Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has now delivered a strong message to the struggling star, warning him not to take his cricketing talent for granted.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Form Dips in IPL 2025

Yashasvi Jaiswal, once hailed as the future of Indian batting, has had a disappointing start to IPL 2025. In five matches, he has crossed the 30-run mark only once — a 67-run knock against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Apart from that, his scores have failed to contribute meaningfully to Rajasthan Royals’ campaign. The stylish left-hander, known for his fearless batting and crisp timing, seems to have lost his touch following India’s 3-1 Test series defeat in Australia earlier this year.

Basit Ali’s Brutally Honest Advice

Speaking on his YouTube channel, former Pakistan batter Basit Ali pulled no punches in his critique of Jaiswal. He compared Jaiswal’s trajectory to that of Prithvi Shaw, who also burst onto the scene with promise but faded due to inconsistency and attitude concerns.

“His stomach has filled. Jaiswal isn’t focusing on cricket anymore. This is my open message: cricket can make you cry. Look at Prithvi Shaw. Love the game, bring back the passion,” said Basit.

His words have struck a chord with fans and experts alike, especially at a time when competition for top-order spots in Team India is at an all-time high.

Young Stars Stealing the Spotlight

As Jaiswal struggles, a new generation of Indian talent is making headlines. Punjab Kings’ 21-year-old Priyansh Arya smashed a stunning 39-ball century against Chennai Super Kings, while Gujarat Titans’ Sai Sudharsan continues his consistent run. Sudharsan is currently second in the Orange Cap race with 273 runs from five matches, underlining the depth of India’s batting talent pool.

Kohli, Rohit’s Retirement from T20Is a ‘Right Decision’

Basit Ali also weighed in on the post-World Cup decision of Indian legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to step away from T20Is.

“Rohit and Virat made the right decision to retire from T20s after winning the 2024 World Cup. I felt Virat still had more to give, but India has a strong bench strength,” he said.

While Rohit Sharma has struggled for runs in IPL 2025, Kohli remains a dominant force in the format, having scored 164 runs in four matches at a strike rate of 143.85, including two half-centuries.

What’s Next for Yashasvi Jaiswal?

The pressure is mounting on Jaiswal to deliver soon. With Rajasthan Royals relying on him to provide explosive starts, the franchise and its fans will hope he regains his rhythm before it’s too late. With stiff competition from rising stars like Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, and Devdutt Padikkal, the road back to India’s T20 side is becoming increasingly challenging.

Basit Ali’s comments serve as a wake-up call for Yashasvi Jaiswal. The IPL is unforgiving, and talent alone isn’t enough to survive. With young guns making their mark and veterans stepping aside, Jaiswal needs to show he belongs among the best — not just in potential, but in performance.
