Rajasthan Royals made it to the headlines after securing the service of 13-year-old batting sensation during the IPL auction. While the cricket world cannot wait to get a glimpse of him, Rajasthan Royals batting coach gives an interesting update.
13-year-old sensation
The 13-year-old Vaibhav Raghuvanshi became an overnight sensation after becoming the youngest player to be acquired by an IPL franchise. Rajasthan Royals bought him for a whopping Rs 1.10 crore making him an instant sensation. However, whether Rajasthan Royals will utilize him or not is not certain yet. In Vijay Hazare Trophy last season, Raghuvanshi played some really good knocks that grabbed eyes.
He scored 71 off 42 balls against Baroda and became the youngest Indian to score a List A fifty. Later he delivered the fastest hundred by an Indian in youth Test cricket against Australia in Chennai. His role in India‘s ACC U19 Asia Cup campaign including two crucial fifties helped the side make to the final.
While speaking of his debut in IPL 2025, Rajasthan’s batting coach Vikram Rathour said, “I am not sure if we will use him or not, it will depend on the strategy, the surface, and the opposition. We acquired his services because he is a very special player. He has a lot of ability, he may be young but I have hardly ever seen a player this young to possess the power he has. The signs are great and if he works hard I am sure he will be a big player.”
Rathour also spoke about his reunion with Rajasthan’s head coach Rahul Dravid. They two worked together for Indian cricket team. Speaking of the same, Rathour said, “There won’t be much difference. We have worked together before, he is a brilliant coach. I really enjoyed my tenure with him. When we were in the Indian team we were fortunate enough to win the World Cup. Otherwise, there’s not much difference, the IPL is a shorter tournament and Indian cricket is year-long.”
He continued. “The good thing is that you get to work with the same bunch of players, we might have the same players for up to three years. In the Indian team you have different batters across formats. As far as coaching is concerned, it’s about helping the team, supporting the batters, guiding them somehow and getting the best performance out of them.”
