KL Rahul to Bat in the Middle Order for IPL 2025? Reports Suggest a Big Change

Reports suggest that KL Rahul will not open in IPL 2025 and will instead play in the middle order.

The Delhi Capitals (DC) batsman, who performed well as a finisher in India‘s recent matches, is expected to change his batting position for better team balance.

Rahul has been one of the best IPL openers, scoring 4,683 runs at an average of 45.46 and a strike rate of 134.60. DC bought him for ₹14 crore in the mega auction, and many fans expected him to be captain. However, reports say he has decided to focus on his batting and has asked the team management to appoint another captain.

For the first time since 2019, Rahul will neither captain nor open. He is likely to bat at No. 3, while Abishek Porel, Faf du Plessis, or Jake Fraser-McGurk could open. The middle order may include Rahul, Tristan Stubbs, Ashutosh Sharma, and Axar Patel.

DC will start their IPL 2025 campaign against Rahul’s former team, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), on March 24 in Visakhapatnam. Fans will be eager to see how Rahul performs in his new role.

It remains to be seen whether this strategy will help DC win their first IPL title.
