Mark Chapman can surpass Mohammed Hafeez in the T20I series

Chapman to cross Hafeez in this all-time list

Mark Chapman, the New Zealand all-rounder has a chance to go past Mohammad Hafeez on the list of all-time scorers between Pakistan and New Zealand in T20Is. Chapman is currently placed at 5 with 541 runs from 18 innings. Hafeez, on the other hand, has a total of 563 runs from the same number of innings. A good series for Chapman can make him skip a few more names in the series.

Opportunity to lead the New Zealand list

While he needs just 23 runs to surpass Hafeez on the list and hold the fourth position, others are not far too ahead either. Former New Zealand T20I captain, Kane Williamson, holds the third position with 667 runs from 21 innings. Williamson has scored six half-centuries against Pakistan in T20Is. Surpassing Williamson would also make Chapman the highest run scorer for New Zealand against Pakistan in the format.

Two Pakistanis at the top

The top two positions in the list are occupied by two Pakistani openers. Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam hold the top slots. Incidentally, both have been dropped for this series. Rizwan has a total of 689 runs from 20 innings with an average of 43.06. The right-hander has five half-centuries against New Zealand in T20Is.

On the other hand, Babar Azam is atop the list with 880 runs from 24 innings at an average of 41.90. He has hit nine half-centuries and a century against the side in T20Is.

New opportunity for Pakistan

After the debacle of the ICC Champions Trophy where they couldn’t win even a single game despite being the hosts, the Pakistani cricket team is flying to New Zealand for a five-T20I series. The visiting side has tried to change things up as they have dropped experienced players like Babar and Rizwan. Seamer Naseem Shah too has not been selected for the T20I series, while Haris Rauf and Shaheen Afridi have been dropped for the ODI series.

The first T20I will be played on March 16 at the Hagley Oval.
