Nitish Kumar Reddy, who suffered from a side strain in the T20I series against England in January, is now fit to play for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2025. Reddy has been cleared by the medical team at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru after a recovery period of 6 weeks.
Nitish Kumar Reddy would be able to play the first match for his side against Rajasthan Royals on March 23. The sensation from the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is expected to join the squad on Sunday for the pre-tournament camp. He would be integral to SRH’s quest for the title. His performance in the 2024 season made the franchise retain him ahead of the mega auction.
On Saturday, Nitish Kumar Reddy cleared the yo-yo test, which was the last hurdle for him to be declared fully fit. He scored 18, while it required 16.5 to clear the test. He was handled extra cautiously by the medical team as he took 2 weeks extra to recover fully from his strain than the earlier 3 week period forecasted.
The Hyderabad franchise has placed their hopes on Reddy to deliver as he was among the 5 players retained by SRH. His performance last year was exemplary, scoring 303 runs at a strike rate of 142.92. His bowling was not as impressive, however, taking only 3 wickets in the season at an economy of 11.62. The Indian team will be keeping an eye on Reddy as well as he is expected to travel to England in June for the Test series. His performance in the Border Gavaskar Trophy, especially with bat, has turned him into an overnight star. Reddy’s century at the MCG was one of the highlights of the series.
