Since the inception of the Indian Premier League, it has become hugely popular in the country. Several other cricketing nations have introduced their own leagues similar to IPL. But the IPL teams trump any other T20 side in the world in terms of popularity.
The IPL teams have a huge fan following on social media. All the 8 current teams interact with the fans on social platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. It only adds to the popularity of the league. The 8 teams collide on the field, but off the field as well, there is a battle amongst them on social media.
Rajasthan Royals are the least popular among all the IPL teams on social media. The franchise had won the inaugural edition in 2008. But since then, they haven’t made a massive mark in the league. The absence of big names has also resulted in the least popularity. RR has always been a side that consists of smaller names of cricket since the first edition.

Delhi Capitals haven’t won a single edition of IPL so far. There has been consistent chopping and changing every year. As a result, none of the big names have stayed in the side for long. Each year, the team promises a lot but ends up languishing in the bottom half of the points table that affects the popularity.

Sunrisers Hyderabad came into existence in the year 2012. It’s the newest team amongst the current 8 active IPL teams. Hence, the fan base is lower as compared to some other franchises. After the Deccan Chargers shut down, SRH emerged as a new franchise of Hyderabad. The team has been pretty impressive as it has won 2 IPL titles so far.

Another franchise that hasn’t enjoyed a great run in the league is Kings XI Punjab. Just like DD, KXIP has undergone changes plenty of times. Yet they stand No.5 in terms of the popularity. It has a lot to do though due to the charming team owner and Bollywood superstar Preity Zinta. Her constant presence in the stadiums to support the team has led to the increase in the followers every year.

The presence of India’s superstar Virat Kohli and Mr. 360 AB de Villiers attracts a lot of eyes. Despite the side’s indifferent performances over the years, the fans stand by them and turn up in numbers every year at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore.
