Rajat Patidar, the RCB captain, is knocking on for a place in the Indian T20I side. The right-hander has been in excellent form and is catching the eyes of the selection committee for the Indian side.
Playing against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede stadium, Patidar scored a brilliant half-century. He came to bat at number 4 when Devdutt Padikkal was dismissed in the ninth over. RCB were 95/2 at the time. He made use of the foundation set up by the top order and played some crisp shots with his bat.
Patidar started the inning slowly. MI bowlers were on point to claw their way back into the game. After a fiery start, RCB was struggling with the scoring rate in the middle overs. In the six overs after the powerplay, RCB could score only 39 runs. They had scored 73 before that. Patidar was slow, too, with 19 off 13 at one point.
After the strategic break, RCB batters went berserk. Patidar and Kohli took the bowlers to cleaners. No one was spared as both the batters looked to up the run rate. Virat Kohli fell in the process after scoring a half-century. But Patidar, on the other end, continued. He scored big against both the Kiwi bowlers: Trent Boult and Mitchell Santner. He even dominated Hardik Pandya to notch up his half-century.
He ended with a score of 64 off just 32 balls. He was striking at 200, and that helped his team a lot to post a great total. He got dismissed by Trent Boult in the penultimate over as he looked to score big. Rickelton took a stunning catch to dismiss the RCB captain.
With the efforts of Kohli, Patidar and a cameo from Jitesh Sharma, RCB were able to score 221/5 in 20 overs. The score looks great, but anything can happen in Wankhede. Mumbai Indians are now batting to chase the total down.
