RCB have posted a huge total against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. Batting first, they took the MI bowlers to cleaners. With fifties from Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar, followed by finishing touch from Jitesh Sharma, RCB have scored 221/5.
RCB opener Phil Salt struck a boundary on the first ball of the inning against Trent Boult. However, Boult got revenge on the very next ball by dismissing Salt. He cleaned him up with a ripper as Salt was bowled. It was the 31st instance of Boult getting a wicket in the first over.
The early wicket did not derail RCB’s plans. They continued to attack the MI bowlers. The scoring rate was never down, and they just launched themselves through the powerplay. At the end of the 6th over, they were 73/1. It was the highest powerplay score against Mumbai Indians ever. Padikkal was dismissed a few overs later by Vignesh Puthur for 37 off 22.
The wicket of Padikkal brought Rajat Patidar to the crease. He, along with Kohli, batted sensibly for a few overs. The run rate dipped marginally as RCB could score only 39 runs in the six overs after the powerplay. However, after the strategic break, it was another show by the RCB batters. Kohli and Patidar started muscling the ball away. In the process, Kohli was dismissed. However, the right-hander had already scored an impressive knock of 67 off 42 balls.
Patidar continued to score against everyone. He brought up his own half-century soon and went on to score 64 off 32.
With the strong foundation already in place, Jitesh Sharma launched himself to make full use of it. He struck 4 sixes and 2 fours in his short stay. The batter scored 40* off 19 balls only.
Thus, the RCB batters were impressive today against the Mumbai Indians. They have a decent chance to claim 2 points against the local team.
