Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah go after each other in a much-awaited clash, Kohli shows ‘no respect’ to Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah returned to competitive cricket for the first time since the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, he was welcomed with a six by his compatriot and batting star Virat Kohli.

Bumrah returns after injury

Jasprit Bumrah made his comeback after staying away from cricket for three months. The bowler had suffered an injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. In the last match of the series, the bowler complained of pain and was taken to a hospital during the match. As it turned out, he had a stress-related lower back injury. He had to spend three months in rehab to recover from the injury. Bumrah also missed out on the Indian squad for the ICC Champions Trophy.

Comeback at Wankhede

After recovering at the rehab centre at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, Bumrah returned to the Mumbai Indians squad. MI were missing Bumrah a lot in the games played so far. They could win only 1 out of 4 games. Bumrah finally made a comeback in the fifth match for his team as they clashed with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Virat vs Bumrah

Virat Kohli, opening the batting for RCB, was in fine form against MI. He scored quick runs against Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar. Hardik Pandya had to bring Bumrah early to stop the flow of runs. However, Kohli didn’t spare Bumrah either. On first ball that he faced from Bumrah, he made a connection to send it over the boundary line. The ball was shortish in length, and Kohli struck it towards deep midwicket for a six.

Kohli faced six deliveries from Bumrah and scored 10 runs. The spectators enjoyed the clash between two of the modern greats.

“No respect”

As Kohli hit Bumrah for a maximum, Ian Bishop in the commentary box said this: “No respect, batters just looking to dominate this powerplay, irrespective of the bowler”. Similarly, Sunil Gavaskar remarked, “Welcome back, Jasprit”
