Tim Paine Joins Adelaide Strikers as Assistant Coach for BBL 13

Former Australia Test captain, Tim Paine, is embarking on a new phase of his cricketing journey as he takes up the role of assistant coach for the Adelaide Strikers in the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) 2023-24 season. The announcement comes as the 13th edition of the BBL is set to kick off on December 7 with a match between Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Stars at The Gabba in Brisbane.

Paine’s transition to coaching follows his retirement from professional cricket after Tasmania’s Sheffield Shield First-class match against Queensland in March 2023. His expertise will now be harnessed as he collaborates with head coach Jason Gillespie to guide the Adelaide Strikers in their BBL campaign. Jason Gillespie, expressing his enthusiasm about Paine’s inclusion, emphasized the potential positive impact of Paine’s coaching experience on the team’s performance. Gillespie noted that Paine’s vast experience would contribute to enhancing various aspects of the players’ skills and the overall approach to the game.

With a distinguished career in cricket, Tim Paine has participated in 154 First-class matches, accumulating 6,490 runs, which includes 35 half-centuries and three centuries. As he steps into his coaching role, Paine’s expertise and insights gained over the years are expected to benefit the players under his mentorship.

Paine to join Voges

In addition to his role with the Adelaide Strikers, Tim Paine is set to join Adam Voges’ coaching staff for the Australia A series against New Zealand A. The Australia A series is scheduled to commence on August 28. Adam Voges, who has coached Western Australia and Perth Scorchers to domestic trebles, highlighted Paine’s contribution to the coaching setup. Voges underscored the value of Paine’s experience, particularly for the younger members of the team.

Adam Voges praised Paine’s involvement, acknowledging the significance of having a former Australian captain like him contributing to the team’s growth and development. Paine’s coaching presence is anticipated to be a valuable asset as the team prepares for competitive encounters.

“I have had a fair bit to do with Tim over the journey and I’m really excited for him to start to dip his toe into coaching post-career and looking forward to him being around the group. To have a former Australian captain in amongst it and to be able to lean on him and for him to provide that experience to a couple of the younger players I think will be great,” said Voges.

Tim Paine’s dual coaching roles underscore his commitment to nurturing emerging talent and further contributing to the world of cricket beyond his illustrious playing career. As he embarks on this coaching journey, his influence is set to resonate with both the Adelaide Strikers and the Australia A series squad.
