Yuzvendra Chahal to Make Maiden County Cricket Stint with Kent

Yuzvendra Chahal, the leg-spinner who missed out on selection for the 2023 ODI World Cup squad, is set to embark on his debut County cricket journey with Kent. While the national selectors didn’t include him in the 15-man World Cup squad announced recently, Chahal sees this as an opportunity to hone his skills in English conditions and make a strong comeback to the Indian team.

Official Announcement Awaited

Kent County Cricket Club is expected to make an official announcement about this development shortly. Chahal’s County stint will involve him playing three four-day games for Kent. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has granted a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to Chahal, allowing him to participate in County cricket. If required by the Indian team, Chahal will be readily available to join the national squad.

In 2023, Chahal has featured in only two ODIs, where he managed to claim three wickets. The 33-year-old leg-spinner has a commendable track record in ODIs, having taken 121 wickets in 72 matches at an average of 27.13. Additionally, he boasts 96 scalps in 80 T20Is, with an average of 25.09.

Chahal disappointed about missing out on the World Cup Squad

Expressing his disappointment at missing out on national selection, Chahal remains optimistic about his future prospects. He understands that setbacks are part of a cricketer’s journey and hopes that his performances will soon warrant his return to the Indian team. Chahal shared his thoughts, saying, “Naturally, it is very disappointing to miss out on any selection for India. As a cricketer, we must accept that some things don’t always go our way. I must continue to try my best, and hopefully, my performances will justify selection again for India.”
