Ishan Kishan faced a brain-fade moment on Wednesday against his former team Mumbai Indians. The batter walked off for a caught behind, displaying the ‘spirit of cricket’. However, as replays came up, Kishan was left disappointed as his bat was far away from the ball.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad were put into bat by the Mumbai Indians after winning the toss. On a cracker of a pitch, SRH batters expected to have an evening full of runs. However, something else has transpired.
Trent Boult, known for his new ball bowling, took a wicket on his second ball of the match. He dismissed the big fish, Travis Head, for a duck. Head tried to play a big slash across the line of the ball. However, he miscued it and was caught at deep backward point.
What happened next was bizarre. On the first ball of the third over, Deepak Chahar bowled a wayward delivery down the leg side against Ishan Kishan. The wicketkeeper collected the ball, and hardly anyone from the Mumbai Indians side seemed interested in appealing.
Interestingly, the umpire seemed equally confused about the ball. He seemed to first signal the delivery wide. However, midway, he changed the signal to out. The MI cap seemed to be equally surprised by the decision and started celebrating.
Ishan Kishan started walking off as the ball was collected by the wicketkeeper. Mumbai Indians players appreciated Kishan’s response for the ‘spirit of cricket’.
However, what rolled heads was the replay. The replay of the delivery showed that Kishan didn’t touch the ball. The snicko showed no spike while the ball was next to the bat. Kishan was left fuming in the dressing room as he saw the replay.
Ishan Kishan’s dismissal continued his lean form with the bat. The batter scored a century in the first game of the season. However, since then, he has scored just 33 runs in 7 innings. He averages 5.5. His terrible form has been a major reason behind SRH’s failures in the season.
