The talent wielded by Mohammad Amir has never been disputed. Since his debut in 2009, he has been considered a prodigy. An ugly fixing scandal in the same year against England tarnished what could have been a momentous career.

However, Amir returned to international cricket in 2016. In the second leg of his career, he faced multiple hurdles and retired in 2019, only to make a comeback in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Comeback in T20 World Cup 2024

Mohammad Amir retired from international cricket in 2019. It had to do with differences with coaches Misbah-ul-Haq and Waqar Younis. However, he reversed his decision ahead of the T20 World Cup in 2024, where he made a comeback for Pakistan.

Pakistan faced a disappointing end to the tournament. They couldn’t qualify for the Super Eight stage. After the World Cup, Amir decided to retire again. He was followed by Imad Wasim, another regular feature for Pakistan over the years. The two retired on consecutive days in December last year.

Sidelined and ignored

Amir has now revealed why he decided to retire again after the World Cup. Talking to a TV channel, he said, “I felt sidelined and ignored by the Pakistan cricket setup after the T20 World Cup. After the T20 World Cup ended, no one even talked to me.

No one told me if I was part of the future plans. A wise person understands the signs – if you’re not in the plans, then you have to think about yourself. That’s exactly what I did. I’ve made up my mind now – thank you very much, international cricket.”

Amir added, “Honestly speaking, I ended up spending more money than I made. I travelled with my trainer, and all those expenses came out of my own pocket. But that’s a different matter.”

Want to play IPL

Amir talked about his interest in the IPL, he said, “Honestly, if I get the opportunity, I’ll definitely play in the IPL. I’m saying this openly. But if I don’t get a chance, then I will play in the PSL. By next year, I will have the opportunity to play in the IPL, and if given the chance, then why not? I will play in the IPL.”
