KL Rahul has shown everyone the level of talent he possesses. The DC batter has been in stupendous form this season, scoring 323 runs in 7 innings. He has taken his team to multiple victories this season. However, the win against his former team, Lucknow Super Giants, will probably rank the highest for him.
In the second clash between the Delhi Capitals and the Lucknow Super Giants this season, LSG was asked to bat first. Despite a strong start provided by their openers, LSG faltered. Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh scored 52 and 45 respectively. However, other batters couldn’t really capitalise on the start. LSG ended up with a total of just 159/6.
The Delhi Capitals, in reply, looked in control throughout the chase. Despite losing Karun Nair for 15, they remained in control. The major reason behind it was the sensible innings played by KL Rahul. Rahul played a stabilising inning of 57 off 42 balls. He remained not out and saw his team to victory. He was supported by Abhishek Porel, who scored 51 runs, and Axar Patel, who played a cameo of 34 runs.
The win was extra special for KL Rahul. Rahul was the captain of LSG for three seasons before being released by the franchise ahead of this season. The video of the team owner, Sanjiv Goenka, reprimanding KL after a loss last year went viral. KL, who knows the ground well, took full advantage of the case and showed his value to the crowd and spectators.
Veteran India batter Cheteshwar Pujara complimented KL Rahul after his knock of 57 for playing freely and not carrying baggage from the past. He said, “Just move on, don’t carry any baggage from the past. And that’s a good thing. KL is a mature player. Last couple of years, he’s been batting well across formats. He doesn’t want to think about the past and wants to enjoy his batting and be in his zone, rather than think about what went wrong when he was playing for the LSG team. It’s good to move on, which will also help him play well for DC and even for the Indian team. Because, lately, he is someone the India team also relies on, the way he’s batting.”
