Cricket, often referred to as a religion in India, has witnessed some thrilling battles on the international stage. Among the various formats, T20 cricket has gained immense popularity, offering action-packed matches filled with excitement and nail-biting moments. The year 2007 marked the birth of the T20 World Cup, held in South Africa. With eight strong teams battling it out, it was India who emerged as the first-ever T20 World Cup champions. The final provided a fitting end to the T20 career of the legendary Kumar Sangakkara. This victory brought immense joy to the Sri Lankan cricketing fraternity.
The T20 World Cup 2016 witnessed the West Indies becoming the first team to win the title twice. Under the inspirational leadership of Darren Sammy, the Caribbean team played with flair, passion, and resilience. Moerover, their fearless approach to the game, coupled with their ability to deliver under pressure, saw them emerge victorious in a thrilling final against England at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Carlos Brathwaite’s four consecutive sixes in the final over of the match will forever be etched in the memories of cricket fans worldwide.
Australia won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 by an impressive 8 wickets. It was a Trans Tasnmanin final between Australia and New Zealand. They played at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Australia elected to field after winning the toss. Australia chased the target of 173 runs in 18.5 overs. Mitchell Marsh was named as the Man of the Match for his unbeaten knock of 77* in 50 deliveries.
The England cricket team secured their second T20 World Cup trophy by defeating Pakistan with a comfortable five-wicket victory, joining an exclusive club of teams to achieve this feat. England’s bowlers displayed an exceptional performance, restricting Pakistan, led by Babar Azam, to a modest total of 137/8 in their allotted 20 overs. In response, Ben Stokes showcased his class by scoring a brilliant half-century, steering England to a well-deserved win.
